SpainNAB had the pleasure of participating in the 2nd Introductory Course on Impact Investment, organised by the Fondo de Fundaciones de Impacto and Open Value Foundation, a training session designed to introduce foundations and social entities to the transformative potential of impact investment.

Training to strengthen the impact ecosystem
The session brought together experts and key sector actors to address the fundamentals, challenges and opportunities of impact investment.
The welcome was given by Ana Maestre, Director of the Fondo de Fundaciones de Impacto, followed by an inspirational talk by María Ángeles León, President of Open Value Foundation and CEO of Global Social Impact Investments, on how a growing number of actors can become impact investors.
In this context, SpainNAB shared a session dedicated to the national and international impact investment ecosystem, presented by María Molina, Director of Alliances and Impact Ecosystem at the association.
During the session, SpainNAB’s role as the Spanish association for the promotion of the impact economy through impact financing was presented, as well as its connection to the global ecosystem through GSG Impact. The session also explored how the ecosystem has evolved in recent years and the growing role of different actors (foundations, institutional investors, the public sector, banks, family offices and retail investors) in mobilising capital towards solutions that respond to social and environmental challenges.
The session also explored some of the key principles that characterise impact investment, such as the intentionality of generating impact, the additionality of the project and also of the invested capital, and the importance of measuring and managing impact throughout the entire investment process. These elements make it possible to differentiate impact investment from other sustainable investment strategies and contribute to reinforcing its transformative capacity.
The session continued with presentations focused on social entrepreneurship, with Myriam Estarrona (Director of Open Value Foundation), as well as on the impact investment process, from analysis to accompaniment, presented by Mónica Vázquez (Catalytic Ventures – OVF).
Investment vehicles and real experiences were also covered, with contributions from Mayte Alonso (GSI), Theany Bazet (GSI) on tools for investing with impact, and María Cruz-Conde (GSI) on impact measurement and management. The session also included the presentation of impact enterprises and a practical investment decision-making case study.
